Great prices. First visit and had the best fish and chips Portuguese style.
This is the best restaurant. Exceptional and delightful service
Always great best place in New Bedford for Seafood.
I'm new to eating seafood and tried the fish and chips this weekend, it was delicious!! Perfectly cooked, great portion size and I can't wait to go back for more
Delicious food, really helpful service, clean, cozy, will always come back. Reasonably priced too!
This restaurant is delicious! I have been many times , and have had great experiences. The service is great as well! If you haven't tried it then you're missing out.
Horta's truly represents New Bedford's culture and fine seafood, great portions at a very reasonable price. Horta's English style fish and chips are the best in the area.
Best fish n chips in the city, hands down! Generous portions and delicious fast service too A++++
I've been very satisfied with everything from Horta's. The clam chowder has me going back for more almost every week!
Great place food is great the owner is wonderful u will enjoy every bit
Fish and Chips are the best I've ever had. Portuguese Style is the only way!
This is a very small place, about a dozen tables, and I think it's family-run. The service and food were so good, I can tell they take pride in what they do. The waitress was attentive and very friendly, making us feel comfortable and welcome from the moment we walked in. The fried seafood platter was probably the best I've ever had, and I've had quite a few, being in New England. There was so much, we probably could have shared the one dish! You also should also try the Kale soup, a Portuguese specialty. I can't wait to go back to New Bedford so I can try the other fish dinners. (There were scallops in the platter I had, and they were so good, I'll probably get them the next time.) Keep up the good work, folks, your restaurant is one not to be missed!
A hidden heart warming gem that has every table full! I wanted something light for lunch because i am having clam boil for dinner..and then i found this incredible place that has fantastic classic portuguese New Bedford food...
So i had Kale soup...a quahog (stuffed clam) and fish and chips. The food tha Fernanda creates tastes of her passion for it and is nothing less than heart warming...
The waitress was so kind and flying around the dining room like a pro.
They didnt feed my stomach...they fed my soul today! Thank you!
Been going to Hortas over 30 years! It's clean, comfortable and consistent. If you want to pay thirteen to eighteen dollars for a great fish and chip then this is not the place for you, you pay under ten!
I LOVE HORTAS! It's not some expensive seafood place. It's not in the best area but it's been there since 1972! So they must be doing something right. The portions are great and if you don't like seafood. Well she has Portuguese cuisine too. Like octopus stew, Portuguese steak, cacoila, bifana, linguica and much more. I don't know about you but I would rather spend my money on a fresh ingredient cooked meal. The ingredients for every dish is hand made and cut!!! It's definitely a hidden gem!
So when you are hungry for some real good seafood try this place. The price is good and the fish is fresh. Been eating their seafood for decades. The portions are large. Try the stuffed quahogs. They are in the top category of seafood restaurants. Don't expect fancy, expect fresh fish etc.
Nothing fancy at all, tables and chairs. Definitely not a place to impress except for the food. Friendly staff (family operated, I'm sure.) I had fish and chips which were haddock with a great tasting batter cooked perfectly and served hot. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Do not get the large unless you have a ravenous appetite. I had a Medium and it was one large and two good size pieces. The large is 5 pieces and there is no way I could eat that much, no matter how good it was. Parking is street and the neighborhood is 3 families. Take out is definitely an option. The fish was delicious...what else can I say.
Do you like authentic tasty cuisine? Do you like finding hidden gems? Do you like not spending a ton of money for your meals? Horta's, then, is for you! The baked Cod is light and fluffy but more than filling. Go for the small unless you plan to serve a small army. The house spices blend together to give a flavor that you will enjoy lingering in your mouth after you have eaten. No fishy flavor mind you! The Kale soup is another top shelf creation of Horta's. The kale is soft and intermingled with easy to chew onion. There are also carrots, chorizo and lentils in this tasty concoction. We will be back soon because there is still the homemade chowder, stuffed quahog, fish and chips, and so much more. If this place was in Boston it would be hopping every night of the week. Treat your stomach to a meal from Horta's. It will be most appreciative.
I LOVE Horta's. Best fried fish/fish & chips. Huge portions, super cheap! I love everything on their menu and it's made by hand, on-site, fresh. Extremely fresh.
Having been to many restaurants for fish and chips in MA and RI we've finally found a place that we will call our local, excellent service, food hot and amazing, crispy batter, large portions, all cooked fresh, quahogs was very good also. And the prices are so responsible, especially for the great food you received. Server was attentive and helpful. Highly recommended. We won't be back in the near future, we shall be back next week.
We arrived on a Friday night somewhat early (6pm). We were a party of 4 and got a table right away. It was our first visit, although our friends recommended it. Our server was Stephanie (very nice and efficient). We ordered the medium fish and chips, a clam plate and 2 orders of scallops. The quantities were very large and food very tasty. We would definitely go back!
This is a hidden jewel. The fish and chips are truely some of the best I have had amount my travels world wide. Reasonable price and generous portion. They have been voted. Eat fish and chips 3 years in a row. They have small, med and large plate with 2,3 and 5 pieces of fish with generous amount of fries. Good menu selection. Restaurant is nothing fancy, but is clean and the waitress was friendly and offered good service. Met the chef, she was also very friendly. The fish has the lightest, crispiest batter and the cod was most and delicately flavored. Chowder and Kale Soup were both delicious as was the Portuguese Bread pudding that we all shared as a dessert. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
Food was delicious! Prices were so incredible and portions were amazing. Do not go for the atmosphere!
I've had seafood in many states and several countries. The fish and chips served at Horta's are better than any I've ever had worldwide. Generous portions. Good prices. I grew up in New Bedford but no longer live there, or else I'd go once a week ! I return to take my uncle to Horta's for his birthday. He'll be 98 this May.
Very plain inside and don't expect décor or ambience, but do expect some of the best seafood around. The fish and chips is Haddock and is nicely cooked and served hot. Friendly staff. Great for take out as well. Very clean. No negatives at all from me.
The food was excellent! The service was not that great this visit, which is unusual. That won't stop me from coming every time I am in town though!
